Shown on the Muster Roll of the 8th Virginia Regiment 1778-1779. This Company was designated at barious times as Col. James Woods, Lt. Col Chas. Flemings and the Lt. Col's Company. He was Warrant Land Office Military Warrant, No. 3833.
To the principal SURVEYOR of the Land, set apart for the Officers and Soldiers of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This shall be your Warrant to survey and lay off in one or more Surveys, for James Major his Heirs or Affigns the Quantity of two Hundred Acres of Land due unto the said James Major in confideration of his Services for the War as a soldier in the Virginia Continental Line agreeable to a Certificate from the Governor and Council, which is received into the Land Office.
Given under my Hand and the Seal of the said Office, this 29th Day of April in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and 84. On 29 April 1784 at
KY. He appeared in the census of 1790 (3 M < 16, 1M > 16, 4 F, 1 slave.)

in Frederick Co., MD,: In the Name of God Amen this ninth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety five, James Majors of Tawney Town hundred, Frederick County and State of Maryland being in Sickness and weak of Body but of perfect mind and memory and calling tomind that it is appointed for all men to Die do make and Ordain this mylast Will and Testament and do recommend Soul to God and my Body to beBuried in a decent manner at the discretion of my Executors to be hereafternamed. Item - I do will that all my just debts and funeral charges bepaid and Second I do will that sale be made of all my Estate real &personal for the use of the Widow and Children and I do will that my wellbeloved wife Ann Eve shall have her Choose of my horses and her saddleher bed and what thereto belongs and her Wheel and that She have an Equalpart with my three Sons John, James, and David. And I do allow when sale is made of my personal Estate and byDebts paid out of it, the remainder to be equally Divided to my three Daughters Elizabeth, Sarah, & Susanah. And I do will that themoney arising from the Sale of my Real Estate be equally Divided to myWife & three Sons above named. And I do allow that a Sufficiency ofGrain and meat be kept unsold for the Support of the family for one Yearafter my decease -- And I do will that each of my two Sons by a formerWife shall have the sum of five Shillings to wit Alexander & Robert and tomy Daughters Mary & Margaret the sum of five Shillings to be paidwithin two Years after my decease -- And I do hereby Constitute andappoint my Wife Ann Eve and Robert Knox to be Executors of this my last Willand Testament renounceing all the other Wills and Testaments Excutorsand bequests whatsoever allowing this and this only to be my lastWill and Testament. Frederick County Decr 3rd 1795 Then came Robert Knox andWilliam Knox two of the Subscribing Witnesses to The aforegoing last Will and Testament of James Major late of Frederick County Deceased andmade oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God that they did see theTestator therein named Sign & Seal this Will that they Heard him publish pronounced and declare the same to be his last Will and Testamentthat at the time of his so doing he was to the best of theirapprehensions of a Sound and disposing mind memory and understanding that they Respoctively Subscribed their names as Witnesses to this Will inthe Presence and at the request of the Testator & that they did alsosee Margaret Knox the Other Subscribing Witness Sign her name as aWitness to said Will in the Presence and at the request of the Testatorand all in the presence of each other.
